Right now, I should be watching brand new films, like the highly anticipated indie, Nomadland.

Instead, I’m currently watching Mean Girls. For the seventh time. Today.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for Mean Girls, and anyone who doesn’t agree with that statement is the biggest monster I know. And I’ve met someone who once fought a baby squirrel for a Dorito he dropped on the floor.

So, when I spoke to my lord and saviour, Tina Fey about her upcoming Disney Pixar film, Soul, I couldn’t help but talk about something like with all of my soul, too.

Yes. It’s a tenuous link, and yes, I’m ashamed of using it on the comedy genius that brought us 30 Rock. I’m ashamed enough for the both of us.

After Tina asked her fans who they’d like to see cast in the upcoming Mean Girls movie, I thought I should ask her.

“The people I want to see – I perhaps don’t know them yet,” said the Soul actress. “I don’t know if they’re known quantities; I love the idea of breaking some stars.

“That said – yeah, if Billie Eilish wants to play Janis, and if Zendaya wants to play Cady, yeah, let’s do that.”

On 23 January, 2020, Tina announced that a film adaptation of the musical was being produced.

In a statement, Tina Fey said “It’s been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I’ve spent sixteen years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly.”
