During an exclusive interview with The Movie Dweeb, comedian and actor Bobby Lee shared an incredible story about receiving a handwritten letter from Hollywood royalty Jamie Lee Curtis while filming Eli Roth’s highly anticipated Borderlands movie. Unfortunately, in classic Bobby fashion, he’s somehow lost it.
Jamie Lee Curtis’ Heartfelt Welcome to Budapest
While promoting his latest project, Sweet Dreams, Bobby recalled his initial apprehension about filming Borderlands in Hungary.
“My agent had told me, ‘You’re going to be alone for a while in Budapest, because there’s huge stars in it and I don’t know if they’ll want to hang out,’” Bobby admitted.
But, to his surprise, the moment he entered his hotel room, he found a personalized note waiting for him—written by none other than Academy Award-winning icon Jamie Lee Curtis. The letter read:
“I don’t know you, but I’d like to get to know you. Meet me for lunch the next day.”
Cue the best invitation anyone could ever receive!
True to her word, Bobby soon found himself at a Hungarian Burger King with Jamie Lee Curtis and magician Penn Jillette, who also makes an appearance in Borderlands. “She was super kind,” Bobby gushed.
However, when asked about the treasured note from Jamie Lee, he confessed, “I lost it. I don’t know where it is.” Classic Bobby.
What Is Borderlands About?
For those unfamiliar with the upcoming film, Borderlands is based on the beloved video game franchise of the same name. Directed by horror maestro Eli Roth, the movie follows the unpredictable outlaw Lilith (played by Cate Blanchett) as she returns to her chaotic home planet, Pandora, on a mission to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramírez), the universe’s most powerful businessman.

To accomplish her task, Lilith begrudgingly teams up with a ragtag squad, including:
- Roland (Kevin Hart) – A skilled soldier with a mysterious past.
- Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis) – An eccentric scientist with crucial knowledge about Pandora.
- Claptrap (Jack Black) – The wisecracking, one-wheeled robot we all know and love.
- Krieg (Florian Munteanu) – A muscle-bound brute who may not be all brawn.
- Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt) – A teenage explosives expert with a love for chaos.
As for Bobby Lee? He plays Larry, a character whose exact role remains a mystery, but given Bobby’s comedic chops, we can safely assume he’ll be delivering some laugh-out-loud moments amidst the action-packed mayhem.
The Borderlands Video Game Phenomenon
The Borderlands franchise has been a staple of gaming since its debut in 2009. Combining first-person shooting with RPG mechanics and a wild sense of humor, the games have amassed a massive fanbase.
The series revolves around treasure hunters known as Vault Hunters, who explore the dangerous world of Pandora in search of legendary loot, all while battling psychotic bandits and corporate warlords. With its cel-shaded art style, hilarious dialogue, and over-the-top weaponry, Borderlands has cemented itself as one of the most iconic video game franchises of all time.
Fans are eager to see how Eli Roth translates the game’s chaotic, irreverent spirit to the big screen.
Eli Roth Teases His Borderlands Movie
Speaking of Eli Roth, I had the chance to interview the director himself, where he teased what audiences can expect from Borderlands. Without revealing too much, Roth assured fans that the film captures the wild energy of the games while offering fresh surprises.
With an all-star cast, Eli Roth at the helm, and the spirit of the video games alive and well, Borderlands is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated video game adaptations ever.
Even if Bobby Lee did lose his Jamie Lee Curtis letter, he at least left Budapest with a once-in-a-lifetime story—and, hopefully, a few memories that won’t disappear as easily!
