Brian Tyree Henry has officially thrown his dream casting picks into the multiversal ring for Beyond the Spider-Verse, and let’s just say, if Sony is listening, they might need a few extra seats in the recording booth.
While promoting his new show Dope Thief, Henry sat down with The Movie Dweeb and revealed his wish list of actors to join the already-stacked Spider-Verse.
“There’s quite a few people,” he said. “I want [Samuel L. Jackson] somewhere. I need Sam Jackson in my repertoire. Like, he’s a good friend, he’s a close confidant, like, he’s kind of like my guy. I love him. And I was like, we need to do something. He would be great in Spider-Verse. Who else? Uh, let’s see. We should probably get Zoe Saldaña in there. Maybe we should get Beyoncé in there.”

Not stopping there, Henry continued, “Man, like, at this point Spider-Verse can go anywhere. Like, in our last one, there were like 39 people in it. I was like, ‘Wait, they were in it too? I didn’t even know!’”
He then rattled off more names, saying, “Ayo Edebiri could do it. Jeremy Allen White can do it. Danielle Deadwyler can do it. Who else? Chris Evans should come, like, and play.”
Jake Johnson Said What?!
At this point, I couldn’t resist sharing a personal tidbit—I’ve interviewed Jake Johnson, who voices Peter B. Parker, twice, and each time Johnson assured me that I could be in Beyond the Spider-Verse.
But guess what? Still no call from Jake.
Brian, never one to let a fellow actor off the hook, joked that Johnson was a bit of a flake before promising that he would personally get me into the next Spider-Verse instalment—as long as some Jolly Ranchers were involved.
The Success of the Spider-Verse
Both Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse were groundbreaking; redefining what animated superhero films could be. With stunning visuals, emotionally rich storytelling, and a multiverse packed with Spider-People, the films raked in critical and commercial success, with Across the Spider-Verse earning nearly $700 million worldwide.
Brian Tyree Henry plays Jefferson Davis, Miles Morales’ loving but tough father, who plays a key role in shaping Miles’ journey as Spider-Man. His performance brings warmth, humor, and depth to the character, making Jefferson one of the standout parental figures in superhero cinema.

As for Beyond the Spider-Verse, details are still under wraps, but fans are eagerly waiting to see how Miles’ story concludes after that jaw-dropping cliffhanger in Across the Spider-Verse. With Henry’s dream cast in mind, could we see Beyoncé voicing a multiversal Spider-Queen? Ayo Edebiri as a wisecracking Spider-Woman? The possibilities are endless!
Dope Thief: Brian Tyree Henry’s New Action-Packed Drama
Outside the Spider-Verse, Henry is leading the charge in Dope Thief, a gritty and gripping drama set to be a must-watch. The series, written by Peter Craig (The Batman), follows Henry’s character, Ray, as he gets caught up in a high-stakes world of deception, danger, and moral dilemmas.
Speaking about what drew him to the project, Henry said, “By the first five pages [of the script], I was just absolutely captivated. I loved Ray. I loved it, man. Peter Craig, who wrote it—who’s our showrunner and EP—wonderful writer. The Batman, The Town, The Hunger Games—well, not all The Hunger Games, but the ones that are most important—he wrote it, and it was just so wonderful. The characters were so vivid and so crazy, but I also was like, ‘Ray is going through a lot in this first episode alone.’ And I was like, ‘Can I do this?’”

Henry also revealed that when he learned Ridley Scott was attached as a producer, it became a no-brainer. Plus, in addition to starring, he’s also an executive producer on the series, ensuring his hands-on involvement in crafting the show’s vision.
As for where you can watch Dope Thief, expect it to hit Apple TV+.
So, What’s Next?
Between his dream Spider-Verse cast and his intense new role in Dope Thief, Brian Tyree Henry is keeping things exciting in 2025. Now, the real question is: will Jake Johnson finally call me up for my Spider-Verse cameo, or will Brian have to step in with a handful of Jolly Ranchers to seal the deal?
I’m watching, waiting, and hoping for a multiversal miracle!
