When I recently sat down with the brilliant David Dastmalchian, I didn’t just get a front-row seat to his mind-bending performance in Dexter: Resurrection. I also stumbled onto something juicier than a shaken-not-stirred martini. Yep, David revealed that he’s got his sights set on one of the most iconic roles in cinematic villainy: a Bond baddie. And guess what? It’s not just wishful thinking… It’s been on his literal vision board for years.

During our chat, David opened up about his Hollywood dream list, scribbled across whiteboards and poster paper: “Work with the Muppets. Work with David Lynch. Play a Bond villain.” And with his long-standing friendship with Dune director Denis Villeneuve, who just so happens to be directing the next James Bond film, it might not be such a long shot. “I have a special affinity for those Ian Fleming baddies,” he told The Movie Dweeb. “Getting the opportunity to present a contrasting energy to Bond would be so fun.”

When I cheekily suggested that Denis had to cast him as a birthday present, David was gracious as ever. “Denis is the best kind of friend,” he said. “He and people like James Gunn; they’re not only insanely talented, but just incredible human beings.” He spoke with such genuine love and admiration for the people around him that, ironically, he might be too nice to be a Bond villain… But that’s never stopped him playing them before.

Denis Villeneuve Takes the 007 Reins

As for why we’re all so excited about Denis Villeneuve directing the next Bond film? Well, the man is a master of sci-fi epics, atmospheric thrillers, and basically anything that demands stunning visuals and layered storytelling. With Dune and Arrival, he’s proved time and again that he knows how to balance spectacle with soul.

Denis recently confirmed his involvement, calling the opportunity to direct 007 a “massive responsibility” and a “huge honour”. He also described himself as a “diehard” Bond fan, which makes perfect sense, given how much reverence and depth he brings to any franchise he touches. “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007,” he said. “To me, he’s sacred territory.”

But don’t worry… It won’t be all slow-motion brooding and desert sands. Denis has promised to “honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come.” This could be the most artful, explosive, and emotionally devastating Bond film yet. And if it includes Dastmalchian as the villain? Inject it straight into my veins.

David Dastmalchian Gets Dark in Dexter: Resurrection

Before we get ahead of ourselves with Bond theories, let’s not forget David’s latest role: Gareth in Dexter: Resurrection. And yes, he’s terrifying. But not in the moustache-twirling way… More in the “you’re smiling but I feel cold inside” kind of way. In our interview, he described Gareth as a totally new flavour of menace; someone quiet, calculated, and chilling.

David’s made a name for himself playing offbeat outsiders and unsettling villains, and this role adds another trophy to the shelf. His performance is all about tension: no big monologues or screaming fits, just eerie presence. You can tell he understands how to weaponise silence and stillness, which would also make him a perfect Bond villain, just saying.

The Enduring Allure of Dexter

Of course, Dexter: Resurrection is the latest chapter in a franchise that’s been keeping audiences nervously chewing their fingernails for nearly two decades. What started as a story about a forensic blood analyst moonlighting as a serial killer has evolved into a dark, complex character study, and now, it’s resurrected with fresh energy and even darker twists.

This new instalment doesn’t just rely on nostalgia; it brings in layered new characters (hello, Gareth) and raises new questions about morality, justice, and whether a serial killer can ever truly hang up the knives. It’s not just good TV; it’s premium, binge-in-one-sitting-and-regret-nothing television.

And if you’re wondering how Dastmalchian fits into this universe… well, just imagine the unsettling vibes of Prisoners, the sinister presence of The Dark Knight, and then add a sprinkle of that iconic Dexter unease. The result? Chilling perfection.

If you love villains, vision boards, and very emotionally complex serial killers, this is your era. David Dastmalchian is living his best twisted life — and if the Bond gods are listening, let’s hope they hand him a licence to kill (or at least monologue dramatically in a lair).
