Reagan To, the spine-tingling voice behind Young-hee, the iconic Squid Game doll, recently joined me on The Movie Dweeb Podcast, and let’s just say: she did not hold back when it came to dream casting an American version of the show. With rumours flying about a US spin-off of Netflix’s global mega-hit, I gave Reagan the most important job of all; picking who she’d throw into the Red Light, Green Light arena.
Her answer? Pure pop perfection. “I feel like I would put a bunch of pop stars in it just for fun,” she said. “Like Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Tate McRae…” I could already hear the soundtrack. Would it be a bloodbath? Possibly. But at least it would be one with bangers. And look, I love me some Sabrina, but if I were one of the VIPs in that sinister upper box, my money would be on Tate McRae. She’s nimble. She’s flexible. That jump-rope game wouldn’t stand a chance.

It was just one of many brilliant moments on The Movie Dweeb Podcast, and the kind of insight only Reagan To could give. After all, she’s literally been the face (and the terrifying robotic voice) of Squid Game’s international success. But more on that in a sec…
Cate Blanchett Joins the Game
Before we even get to the American spin-off, the original Squid Game left fans with a jaw-dropper of a cameo: Cate Blanchett. Yes. That Cate Blanchett. In the final scene of Squid Game Season 3, the Oscar-winner appears as the American recruiter, sending social media into meltdown.
“She’s just the best,” said director Hwang Dong-hyuk. “We thought having a woman as a recruiter would be more dramatic and intriguing… We needed someone who could dominate the screen with just one or two words, which is exactly what she did.”

It’s a short but stunning moment. Cate stepping into the role that Gong Yoo made iconic in the Korean version, with an eerily calm smile and more charisma in her eyebrow raise than most people can manage in a monologue. It’s exactly the kind of Hollywood-meets-K-Drama twist that has us begging for more.
And if this surprise cameo is anything to go by, a US Squid Game spin-off may not be far off. Which means Reagan’s pop star line-up could genuinely be in the danger zone. Sorry Selena, it’s nothing personal.
Reagan To: The Voice Behind a Global Nightmare (In the Best Way)
Reagan To is just 13 years old… And already part of one of the most iconic TV moments of all time. As the voice of Young-hee, the murderous motion-detecting doll from Squid Game’s “Red Light, Green Light” game, she became the stuff of nightmares for millions around the world.
She told me on The Movie Dweeb that she never expected the show to be as big as it was. Spoiler alert: it became massive. Reagan’s performance, both creepy and oddly catchy, helped catapult Squid Game into the cultural stratosphere, spawning everything from Halloween costumes to parody songs and endless memes.

But she didn’t stop there. Reagan also sings the bone-chilling hide-and-seek song in later episodes, which has now become its own viral audio on TikTok. And with Squid Game now entering its third season and branching into global territory, her contribution continues to echo across the franchise.
As for what’s next? Well, she’s clearly got a flair for casting, an iconic voice, and the kind of calm confidence that could definitely run a real Squid Game. Let’s just hope she keeps it to pop stars and not podcasters. I am not nimble enough for that glass bridge.
Obsessed with Squid Game, celebrity cameos, and the idea of Taylor Swift dodging deadly marbles? You can catch The Movie Dweeb Podcast on YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify, or wherever you like your pop culture with a side of chaos. Just don’t expect me or Reagan To to survive the first round.
