When I caught up with the ever-brilliant Hannah Waddingham at the UK special screening of Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, I expected big laughs, some Disney magic, and maybe a Stitch impression or two. What I didn’t expect was to bond with her over a mutual Eurovision hangover.

The moment she spotted my Stitch-themed microphone, her face lit up like the Eurovision scoreboard before the UK’s points come in. Without hesitation, she gave a pitch-perfect Stitch voice, which, if I’m honest, was a bit too good. It’s probably playing on a loop in her head now from hours in the voice booth, but it had me howling.

Hannah Waddingham Backs Remember Monday After Eurovision 2025

Naturally, our chat turned to Eurovision 2025, and like me, Hannah had been rooting for the UK’s entry, Remember Monday. They may have finished 19th, but she was having none of the disappointment.

“I was hoping Remember Monday would win,” she told me. “They were brilliant. Their harmonies are crazy good!”

And she’s absolutely right. The country-folk trio brought genuine artistry to the stage; not a gimmick in sight, just raw talent. And in true Waddingham style, she reminded us all that it wasn’t about the scoreboard.

“We didn’t get zero!” she laughed. “Europe don’t quite hate us as much as we thought!”

Touché, Hannah. Touché.

Waddingham Becomes Disney Royalty in Lilo & Stitch Remake

But Eurovision wasn’t the only reason she was beaming that day. She was also celebrating the release of Lilo & Stitch, where she voices the legendary Grand Councilwoman, the alien leader responsible for keeping Stitch and his intergalactic chaos in check, a role she admitted she took on with one audience in mind: her daughter.

“She’s the whole reason I did it,” she said, a little misty-eyed. “I just thought how magical it’ll be for her and her pals to see me like that.”

It’s a full-circle moment for Hannah. Back in 2002, when the original Lilo & Stitch hit cinemas, she had just wrapped a stint on Brookside. Fast forward over two decades, and she’s now voicing a major Disney character in a beloved family film.

“I remember watching it back then and loving the voice of the Grand Councilwoman,” she said. “So it’s a real pinch-me moment to be doing it now.”

What Is Lilo & Stitch About? A Quick Refresher

In case you’ve somehow missed the original, Lilo & Stitch tells the story of a lonely Hawaiian girl named Lilo who adopts what she thinks is a dog, only to discover he’s a destructive alien experiment known as Stitch. It’s a story packed with heart, chaos, and the immortal line: “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind.” (Try not crying. I dare you.)

Who Stars in the Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Remake?

The 2025 live-action remake brings the story into a new era, combining visual effects wizardry with a heartwarming new cast.

  • Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo
  • Zach Galifianakis plays the alien scientist Jumba.
  • Billy Magnussen joins the cast as Agent Pleakley.
  • And of course, Hannah Waddingham brings her commanding voice and charisma as the Grand Councilwoman.

While the remake leans into updated visuals and a slightly more modern tone, it never loses the emotional core that made the original a cult classic. As Hannah put it, “The heart of it is still the biggest tearjerker in the world. I think we could all benefit from feeling like that about family.”

Hannah Waddingham Is in Her Disney Era, And I’m Here for It

Between Eurovision ballads and Disney blockbusters, Hannah Waddingham continues to prove that she’s a powerhouse, whether she’s belting in a West End theatre or stealing scenes as an alien matriarch. And me? I’m just thrilled I got to witness a Stitch impression and a heartfelt Eurovision rant in the same interview.

Honestly, give the woman two BAFTAs for this.
