While promoting his latest film, Audrey’s Children, the legendary Clancy Brown sat down with The Movie Dweeb to chat about his character’s much-anticipated return in Invincible, Season 4. And if his reaction is anything to go by, fans are in for a wild ride!

Clancy, who voices the demon detective Damien Darkblood, teased what’s to come:

“That whole project is uncharted territory for me. It’s a lot of fun. [Robert] Kirkman is involved, he’s on the Zooms when we record, and it’s always fun to see what he comes up with. This one is a completely new storyline, so I think people will get a kick out of it. I was kind of shaking my head at it, but it’s pretty cool.”

The Return of Damien Darkblood

Fans last saw Darkblood in Invincible‘s first season, where the trenchcoat-clad demon was investigating Nolan Grayson’s dark secrets. After being banished back to Hell by Cecil Stedman, it seemed like his story had come to a close. But in the Season 3 finale, I Thought You’d Never Shut Up, Darkblood made a jaw-dropping return — his first appearance since the episode Neil Armstrong, Eat Your Heart Out.

Interestingly, Damien’s reappearance never happened in the comics, making this a completely original storyline crafted for the show. Creator Robert Kirkman previously expressed his regret over never writing a storyline where a hero travels to Hell to fight “the devil.” Could this be his opportunity for some hellish redemption?

From Hell to Healing: Clancy Brown in Audrey’s Children

But Clancy’s talents aren’t confined to the animated world. In Audrey’s Children, he steps into the role of Dr. C. Everett Koop, a groundbreaking pediatric surgeon. Set in 1969 Philadelphia, the film follows the incredible true story of Dr. Audrey Evans, who revolutionized childhood cancer treatment and established the first Ronald McDonald House.

Speaking about Dr. Koop, Clancy said:

“He was a powerhouse. He was the real thing; an immensely talented surgeon who performed procedures like separating conjoined twins and infant open-heart surgeries. He changed the way pediatric medicine was practiced. But most importantly, he wasn’t afraid to hire a woman as his chief of oncology, despite the societal norms of the time. And Audrey? She went on to change the world.”

The film stars Natalie Dormer as Dr. Audrey Evans, alongside Jimmi Simpson and Clancy Brown in an emotionally charged tribute to the pioneers of paediatric healthcare.

Whether he’s solving supernatural mysteries or celebrating medical heroes, Clancy Brown continues to deliver captivating performances. Keep your eyes peeled for Invincible, Season 4 to see just what twists await Darkblood in his devilish return!
