Daniel Brühl might be promoting his new satirical comedy series The Franchise, but it seems he’s still got Marvel mischief in his heart. During his chat with The Movie Dweeb, Brühl revealed that if given the chance, he’d absolutely love to heckle Sebastian Stan while he films Thunderbolts*. Because, really, what’s the point of being a former Captain America villain if you can’t cause a little chaos from the sidelines?
For those who need a quick MCU refresher, Brühl plays Helmut Zemo, the master manipulator who tore the Avengers apart in Captain America: Civil War and later returned in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier—with some spectacular dance moves to boot. Meanwhile, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes (aka The Winter Soldier) was one of Zemo’s prime targets, making them one of the MCU’s most delightfully tense duos. But in real life? Brühl and Stan have more of a playful, almost brotherly dynamic—one that might now include some off-screen heckling.

While Brühl’s Zemo isn’t officially in Thunderbolts* (at least, not yet—because let’s be real, Zemo always finds a way), the film is packed with other morally gray favorites. The upcoming MCU film, set for release on May 2, 2025, will see an all-star lineup of antiheroes, including:
- Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier)
- Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova
- David Harbour as Red Guardian
- Wyatt Russell as John Walker (U.S. Agent)
- Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost
- Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine
Essentially, it’s the MCU’s version of The Suicide Squad, with a team of former villains and morally ambiguous characters banding together for a mission that definitely won’t go according to plan.
As of now, there’s been no official word on whether Brühl’s Zemo will sneak into Thunderbolts*, but if he doesn’t—well, at least he can still make his presence felt. Whether that’s through an unexpected cameo or just heckling Sebastian Stan from the craft services table, Brühl’s love for causing a little Marvel mischief is alive and well.
And honestly? If Zemo does show up, it wouldn’t be surprising if he somehow convinces the team to work for him instead. Because at the end of the day, you can take the man out of villainy, but you can’t take the villainy out of the man.
