When you sit down with Thomas Middleditch and Sean Giambrone to talk about Solar Opposites, you might expect to hear about aliens, sci-fi shenanigans, and bizarre animated chaos. What you might not expect? A deep dive into Vanderpump Rules drama.
Yes, while promoting Solar Opposites, Thomas revealed he’d been binge-watching the Bravo reality hit and had plenty to say about the infamous #Scandoval scandal. For those blissfully unaware, Vanderpump Rules made headlines when longtime cast member Tom Sandoval was caught cheating on his girlfriend, Ariana Madix, with her close friend, Raquel Leviss. The affair sent shockwaves through the reality TV world, leading to one of the most explosive seasons in Bravo history.

Naturally, I had to ask Thomas what his Solar Opposites character, Terry, would make of the scandal. His response? Pure gold.
“He’d be absolutely loving [the series’ drama],” Thomas laughed. “[He’d be] hosting parties, being a part of the fan Reddit… Distributing gossip, going to SUR and trying to spot them.”
Clearly, Terry would be all-in on the reality TV madness. But despite the chaos, Thomas also said his character would take Ariana’s side in the scandal. That said, he did offer Tom Sandoval some sage advice:
“We’re waiting for the redemption arc. Tommy, it’s going to take time. Don’t worry. Offer humility. You will be forgiven… At some point. Maybe.”
Sean, not to be outdone, suggested that the ultimate crossover event would be throwing the Vanderpump Rules cast into his version of The Wall—presumably, to see what wild drama would unfold when reality stars meet a sci-fi simulation. Honestly? I’d watch.
Meanwhile, in the Sci-Fi World of Solar Opposites…
Of course, Solar Opposites remains the main reason Thomas and Sean sat down for The Movie Dweeb interview. The hit Hulu animated series, created by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan, follows a group of aliens who crash-land on Earth and attempt to assimilate into human society—with varying degrees of success.

Middleditch voices Terry, a fun-loving, pop culture-obsessed alien who is far more interested in human entertainment than in taking over the planet. Sean Giambrone, on the other hand, voices Yumyulack, Korvo’s replicant/son who is a self-proclaimed scientist and bounty hunter.
Now several seasons in, Solar Opposites continues to push the boundaries of animated comedy, blending absurd humor with surprisingly sharp social commentary. And, as it turns out, its cast members are just as hilarious off-screen as they are on it.
Whether they’re dissecting animated sci-fi chaos or Vanderpump Rules betrayals, one thing is clear: Thomas Middleditch and Sean Giambrone bring the fun no matter what universe they’re in.
