Teri Hatcher, aka the voice behind one of the most terrifying animated villains of all time, has spoken – and she’s totally down for a Coraline sequel! In an interview with The Movie Dweeb, while promoting her latest animated project WondLa, Hatcher shared her love for the 2009 stop-motion masterpiece and the possibility of returning to the eerie world of the Other Mother.
Coraline: A Modern Animated Classic
If you somehow missed Coraline (first of all, are you okay?), it’s the deliciously creepy, visually stunning stop-motion film from Laika Studios, directed by Henry Selick and based on Neil Gaiman’s novella. The story follows Coraline Jones, a curious girl who discovers a mysterious parallel world that seems perfect at first – until she realizes her Other Mother (voiced by Hatcher) is hiding some seriously sinister secrets.
Hatcher didn’t just voice the twisted, button-eyed villain, though. She also played Coraline’s real mother, making the contrast between the two performances even more unsettling. Coraline was a massive success, raking in over $124 million worldwide and cementing itself as a beloved cult classic.

And now, with Coraline having a big year in 2024—including a re-release and special events featuring Neil Gaiman and Henry Selick—Hatcher is excited to celebrate its legacy. But would she return for a sequel? You bet.
“Oh, that would be so great!” she said when asked about the possibility of Coraline 2. “I mean, I think that was a great project… like a masterpiece, like the Mona Lisa. I’d do anything for the Coraline people and I continue to do that.”
That’s it, folks—Teri Hatcher has spoken. Now, all we need is for Laika and Neil Gaiman to make it happen!
Teri Hatcher’s New Animated Adventure: WondLa
While we wait (im)patiently for any Coraline sequel news, Hatcher has been busy lending her voice to another stunning animated project: WondLa.
Based on Tony DiTerlizzi’s The Search for WondLa book series, this new Apple TV+ animated show is set in a futuristic world and follows Eva Nine, a young girl raised in an underground sanctuary who sets off on a thrilling adventure to find others like her. With breathtaking animation and a deeply emotional story, WondLa is shaping up to be a must-watch for sci-fi lovers.

Hatcher, who plays a key role in the series, gushed about the project: “For art nerds, for sci-fi nerds—which I consider myself one—you just look at a project like this and think, it’s just kind of amazing. Fantastical storytelling and just so beautiful, unlike really any animation I’ve seen on television before.”
So whether you’re a Coraline devotee or a sci-fi animation fan, Teri Hatcher is making sure 2024 is a great year for you. Now, let’s just hope someone at Laika is listening—because we need Coraline 2 ASAP!
