During the interview, after talking about her son, I jokingly pointed out that he’s one lucky kid – he has the perfect excuse to watch Sharkboy and Lavagirl over and over again since his mom starred in it. That’s when Pieterse, with an adorable mix of nostalgia and mild embarrassment, admitted: “You know, it was a very cute movie, but it was also terrible in its own ways. That’s so mean to say, but like, it’s had a resurgence, which is great. But there were some issues. But it’s okay! It’s special to me, it’s special to me – it’s close to my heart for sure, but yeah.”

I love the honesty! And let’s be real – Sharkboy and Lavagirl may have had its quirks (the 3D was… something else), but it remains a childhood classic for many. Plus, Pieterse was just a kid when she played the adorable Ice Princess, so she has nothing to be embarrassed about! (Although, let’s face it – who isn’t a little mortified by their early work?)
