Look, I love my fiancée. I really do. But when you’re talking to Anya Taylor-Joy about Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, sometimes you get a little carried away. And by “a little,” I mean enough for her to call me out in front of the world.

While promoting The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Anya was absolutely buzzing about her upcoming Mad Max prequel. Furiosa had been an “incredible, wild experience,” she told me, adding, “I love [Furiosa] so, so much.” Then, in a quote that deserves to be etched into cinematic history, she reflected, “It really brings so much joy to my heart that the two characters that I’ve played that have the most in common are Princess Peach and Furiosa.”

Now, when an Academy Award-worthy actress says something that brilliant, you get hyped. And that’s when I made the fatal error—I blurted out that I was somehow more excited for Furiosa than I was for my own wedding, which was only a few months away.

Cue Anya, furiously (pun intended) exclaiming, “No. That’s not fair!”

Luckily, I managed to win her back when she congratulated me on my upcoming nuptials—as Imperator Furiosa herself. Life truly peaked in that moment.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie: A Blockbuster Hit

Before Anya was wielding flamethrowers in the wasteland, she was saving the Mushroom Kingdom as Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The animated adventure, directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, took audiences by storm, proving once and for all that a Mario movie could actually work. (Sorry, 1993).

Featuring a star-studded cast, the film brought together Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and, of course, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach. The film was a nostalgia-packed thrill ride that delighted audiences of all ages and absolutely crushed at the box office.

Danny DeVito Wants to Play Wario (And We Need This to Happen)

Speaking of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, I recently sat down with the legendary Danny DeVito, who had an important message for Chris Pratt: “You should tell him that I’m going to take him to the cleaners, but that I should be in the movie.”

That’s right—DeVito is totally up for playing Wario in a sequel, and honestly, how do we make this happen? The man already has the voice, the attitude, and the perfect chaotic energy. If Nintendo and Illumination don’t get on this immediately, they’re missing out on cinematic gold.

Furiosa: The Road Back to the Wasteland

While The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a fun and colorful adventure, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set to take us back to the brutal, high-octane world of George Miller’s Mad Max universe. Serving as a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, the film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger version of Charlize Theron’s iconic Imperator Furiosa, alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.

Mad Max: Fury Road was an undeniable masterpiece, earning ten Academy Award nominations and winning six. The 2015 film set a new standard for action movies, with its jaw-dropping stunts, stunning cinematography, and minimal use of CGI. If Furiosa can capture even half of that magic, we’re in for an absolute treat.

So, while Anya may have scolded me for my Furiosa obsession, can you blame me? With The Super Mario Bros. Movieproving her star power and Furiosa revving up to be a must-see, it’s clear that Anya Taylor-Joy is ruling both the Mushroom Kingdom and the Wasteland.

And hey, if my wedding ends up getting Fury Road-style car chases, then maybe I’ll finally be able to put Furiosa second on my excitement list. (Maybe.)
