Omni-Man, the ruthless Viltrumite warrior from Invincible, has taken on some of the most powerful characters in comics. But is there a superhero out there who could actually beat him in a fight?
When I put this question to Invincible creator Robert Kirkman during our interview, he took a moment before delivering his verdict:
“Maybe Sleepwalker.”
Yes, you read that right. Not Superman. Not Thor. Sleepwalker.

He then dived into the fan obsession over superhero power rankings, especially when it comes to Omni-Man vs. Superman or The Boys’ Homelander.
“The reason I like answering those questions is I don’t think about superhero scale. I don’t have a list; I have a fairly encyclopedic knowledge of comic book characters, and superheroes in particular,” Kirkman explained. “But I don’t have them ranked.”
That didn’t stop him from throwing out another unexpected take:
“I could sit here and go, ‘Maybe Galactus?’ but for all I know, on the ranking scale, Galactus is far below Superman. But the fact that I’ve already said that Omni-Man could beat Superman means that he could definitely beat Galactus.”
Kirkman even admitted he enjoys trolling his fans with these debates. “I have no idea. I guess what I’m saying is I don’t really take it very seriously, which is why I enjoy it when people attack me.”
At the end of the day, he reminded us that superhero battles are entirely dependent on the writer, referencing the many times Batman has somehow beaten Superman.
The Invincible Phenomenon
Since debuting in 2021, Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible has been a massive hit with both fans of the original comics and newcomers alike. Based on Kirkman’s long-running comic series, the show follows Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun), a teenager who discovers he has superpowers and struggles to step out of the shadow of his all-powerful father, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons).

The series also boasts an incredible voice cast, including:
- Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson
- Gillian Jacobs as Atom Eve
- Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman
- Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien
- Zazie Beetz as Amber Bennett
- Mahershala Ali as Titan
With its mix of brutal action, emotional storytelling, and shocking twists, Invincible has cemented itself as one of the most compelling superhero shows today. The highly anticipated second season is currently underway, with even more jaw-dropping moments in store.
The Live-Action Invincible Movie – Who Will Play Who?
During my chat, Kirkman also teased the upcoming Invincible live-action movie. When asked which actor he’d love to cast in the big-screen adaptation, he gave an unexpected but heartfelt response: Ed O’Neill.
No, not Zendaya or Tom Holland, but Ed O’Neill, the Married… with Children and Modern Family star.

“I’ve always longed to work with Ed O’Neill,” Kirkman said. “And I’d happily cast him in any role—whether it be Omni-Man, Cecil Stedman, or Battle Beast.”
While no official casting has been announced yet, Kirkman’s endorsement of O’Neill raises some fun possibilities. Could we see him as the grizzled, world-weary Cecil? Or maybe a surprise villain? Only time will tell.
One thing’s for sure—whether it’s animation or live-action, Invincible is here to stay, and fans are eager to see who will step into these iconic roles.
