Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen franchise is known for its sharp dialogue, high-octane action, and, of course, its gloriously creative swearing. So, when I sat down with the cast of Netflix’s new The Gentlemen series, I had to ask them the all-important question: what’s your favourite swear word?

Turns out, the cast had plenty to say on the matter.

The original 2019 The Gentlemen film gave my dad his favourite new word: cunty. Ray Winstone, never one to be outdone, decided to elevate it further, introducing the adjective cuntier. Because why settle for cunty when you can be cuntier?

Theo James, ever the eloquent gentleman, revealed that his favourite swear word is fuck knob. But he also shared a fun fact about the show’s approach to swearing:

“You have to be careful with fuck. If you use it too much, it kind of devalues it. Guy Ritchie was very big on that.” Wise words from the White Lotus star—because, let’s be honest, a well-placed fuck is an art form.

While some of his co-stars went for the full-on expletives, Daniel Ings took a different route, saying he’s a fan of the more polite swear words like cripes and crumbs.

Theo James, of course, wasted no time in roasting his co-star, calling his choice “far less interesting” than fuck knob. A fair critique.

Vinnie Jones, known for his hard-man persona, initially refused to swear in front of Joely Richardson, admitting, “I have to watch my P’s and Q’s around her.” But after some coaxing, he revealed his current favourite: bellend. Classic.

Max Beesley, clearly a man of taste, doubled down on cunty as the ultimate swear word, calling it “a blinder” that simply can’t be topped. My dad would be proud.

What Is The Gentlemen Series About?

The Gentlemen is Guy Ritchie’s latest expansion of his 2019 film of the same name, bringing his signature blend of crime, comedy, and chaos to the small screen. The Netflix series follows Eddie Halstead (played by Theo James), an aristocrat who unexpectedly inherits a massive estate—only to discover it’s at the center of a dangerous drug empire. Now, he must navigate the criminal underworld, facing off against seasoned gangsters, all while trying to maintain his family’s legacy.

Alongside Theo James, the series boasts a stellar ensemble, including:

  • Kaya Scodelario (SkinsCrawl)
  • Daniel Ings (I Hate SuzieLovesick)
  • Joely Richardson (Nip/TuckEvent Horizon)
  • Vinnie Jones (SnatchLock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels)
  • Max Beesley (SuitsJamestown)
  • Ray Winstone (Sexy BeastThe Departed)
  • Michael Vu (The Lazarus Project)

And, of course, the mastermind himself, Guy Ritchie, serves as co-creator, ensuring that the series maintains the sharp wit and stylish action that made the original film a hit.

So, whether you’re tuning in for the high-stakes crime drama or just to hear a masterclass in British swearing, The Gentlemen promises to deliver. And if nothing else, at least we now have cuntier in our vocabulary.
