While promoting her upcoming horror flick Imaginary, DeWanda Wise made it crystal clear—there’s only one Marvel character she wants to play, and that’s none other than the X-Men’s weather-controlling queen, Storm!
“[Storm] is the only Marvel character I’m interested in,” DeWanda told The Movie Dweeb. “It’s the only Marvel character I’ve ever been interested in.”

The fans agree. The internet has been buzzing with fan-casting for years, and DeWanda’s name has been thrown into the mix more times than Wolverine’s been resurrected in the comics. And with the X-Men set to finally make their grand MCU debut (reportedly, writers are hard at work following the WGA strikes), the timing has never been better.
But before you start photoshopping DeWanda into a white mohawk and an electrified cape, it’s worth noting that Jeff Loveness, the writer of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, has confirmed that the X-Men won’t be appearing in that particular film. However, the mutants are undoubtedly on their way, especially with Deadpool & Wolverine officially bringing two major X-Men into the MCU. Could Storm be far behind? And could DeWanda Wise be the one calling down the thunder? We certainly hope so!
DeWanda Wise’s Imaginary Brings a Childhood Nightmare to Life
While we wait for Marvel to make the (wise) choice of casting DeWanda as Storm, she’s busy leading Imaginary, a creepy new horror movie that’s set to make you question every childhood plushie you ever loved.
The film follows a woman (played by Wise) who moves back to her childhood home, where her stepdaughter forms an eerie bond with an old stuffed bear. But as you might expect, this is no ordinary toy. Let’s just say, when imaginary friends come to life, things rarely go well. Directed by Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare, Fantasy Island), Imaginary also stars Tom Payne, Taegen Burns, and Veronica Falcón.
The Fantastic Four Casting That’s Set the Internet Ablaze
Speaking of superhero casting, unless you’ve been living under a rock (or trapped in the Quantum Realm), you’ll know that Marvel has finally confirmed its new Fantastic Four lineup!
Pedro Pascal is suiting up as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby is bringing elegance and power as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn is flaming on as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will be clobbering his way onto screens as Ben Grimm.
And in one of the best moments of my interviewing history, I was actually the one to break the news to Joe Keery that his Stranger Things co-star, Joseph Quinn, had been officially cast as the MCU’s Human Torch. His reaction? Pure gold.
With Deadpool & Wolverine set to kick open the MCU’s multiversal doors, the X-Men inevitably on their way, and the Fantastic Four finally assembled, the future of Marvel Studios is looking electrifying. Now, Kevin Feige, do the right thing—cast DeWanda Wise as Storm already!
Imaginary is in cinemas 8 March from Lionsgate UK.
