You know a film franchise has picked up when even my Dad’s aware of it. Bless him, I’m pretty sure he thinks Avatar is one of the contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

And yet, my Dad is well aware of what the Marvel Cinematic Universe is. He’s even heard of Iron Man. I’m so proud of him.

So when there’s a chance to chat about the MCU, both to get a scoop, and to make my Dad proud, I will.

When I sat down on Zoom with the Jurassic World Dominion star, DeWanda Wise, I wanted to ask her about the huge amount of fan-casting, all of whom want to see her portray X-Men’s Storm in the film franchise.

“[Storm] is the only Marvel character I’m interested in,” said DeWanda. “It’s the only Marvel character I’ve ever been interested in.”

The X-Men are said to be making their MCU debut very soon, with writers being reportedly working on the script following the WGA strikes. However, Jeff Loveness, the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty writer, has said that the X-Men wouldn’t appear in the film. Deadpool and Wolverine are both being introduced into the MCU in the upcoming sequel, Deadpool & Wolverine.

Marvel have recently made some other huge casting announcements, with Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach all being confirmed to play the Fantastic Four. Joseph’s Stranger Things co-star, Joe Keery, immediately text him to talk about the news.

DeWanda also spoke about her horror, Imaginary, joking about her fears of filming a scary film in New Orleans, a place she called the most haunted city in America. She said she took sage spray on set with her, to keep spirits and ghosts at bay.

Imaginary is in cinemas 8 March from Lionsgate UK.
