Tim Allen’s Buzz Lightyear is ready to blast off once again—but this time, in a story that might just tug at your heartstrings harder than ever.

While promoting The Santa Clauses Season 2, I had to ask Tim about the highly anticipated Toy Story 5. After all, who wouldn’t want to know what’s next for Woody, Buzz, and the gang?

Surprisingly, I wasn’t the first person to ask him that question this week. In fact, he revealed that the barista who sold him his coffee the day before had already beaten me to it. So, either I’m a terrible journalist, or that barista deserves a press pass. Let’s go with the latter.

But here’s where things got interesting—Tim didn’t just speculate about the sequel; he went full Pixar mode and pitched his own plotline on the spot. And folks, it’s a tearjerker.

Tim Allen’s Toy Story 5 Dream Plot: Andy’s Nostalgic Rescue Mission

Tim envisions a story where Andy—yes, our Andy—is now a father himself. One day, his child stumbles across an old, worn-out Buzz Lightyear action figure online. Missing a hand. Well-loved. Vintage.

And then it hits Andy—that’s his Buzz.

From there, the story takes an emotional turn as Andy embarks on a journey to track down and reunite his childhood toys, piece by piece. He collects Woody, Jessie, Rex, and the rest of the gang, restoring them with the help of his children. And just like that, the magic of Toy Story is reignited, passing on to a whole new generation.

As Tim put it:

“What a wonderful idea; that it’s all through Andy’s eyes, because we made his life, and now he’s returning that favor.”

I mean… come on. If Pixar doesn’t take this idea and run with it, they’re missing out on what could be the most sentimental (and possibly most sob-inducing) entry in the franchise yet.

The Highly Anticipated Toy Story 5

Disney and Pixar officially announced Toy Story 5 in 2023, sending fans into a frenzy. The Toy Story franchise has been a cornerstone of animation since the original film debuted in 1995, following the adventures of Woody, Buzz, and their fellow toys as they navigate their ever-changing world. Toy Story 2 saw Woody grappling with his past as a collectible, Toy Story 3 delivered an emotional farewell as Andy left for college, and Toy Story 4 explored Woody’s decision to leave his friends behind and find a new purpose. With each installment, Pixar has balanced nostalgia, humor, and deep emotional storytelling—so expectations for Toy Story 5 are sky-high.

The Santa Clauses: Tim Allen Returns as Santa

Of course, Tim Allen isn’t just Buzz Lightyear—he’s also Santa Claus. The actor reprised his iconic role in The Santa Clauses, the Disney+ series that serves as a continuation of The Santa Clause movie trilogy.

In the show, Scott Calvin (Allen) has been Santa for nearly 30 years, but he begins to struggle with the pressures of the job. When he starts losing his Santa magic, he considers retirement and sets out to find a worthy successor. Meanwhile, his family—including his wife Carol (Elizabeth Mitchell) and their kids—must navigate life in the North Pole while preparing for big changes.

The series features a mix of returning favorites and fresh faces, including Kal Penn as a potential new Santa candidate and Austin Kane as Scott’s teenage son. It brings back the warmth and humor of the original films while expanding the Christmas-filled world in new and exciting ways.

The Legacy of The Santa Clause

For those who grew up watching The Santa Clause (1994), the franchise holds a special place in holiday movie history. The original film introduced Scott Calvin, a regular guy who accidentally causes Santa to fall off his roof—only to inherit the red suit and sleigh himself. With plenty of laughs, heartwarming moments, and an unforgettable performance from Tim Allen, the film became a holiday classic.

Two sequels followed, exploring Scott’s life as Santa, his marriage to Mrs. Claus, and the challenges of raising a family in the North Pole. Now, The Santa Clauses keeps the tradition alive, proving that Tim Allen is still the ultimate Santa Claus.

Whether he’s suiting up in red or rocketing “to infinity and beyond,” Tim Allen continues to bring beloved characters to life. And with both The Santa Clauses and Toy Story 5 on the horizon, it’s safe to say he’s keeping busy—just like Santa himself.
