What’s the worst thing you could possibly conjure up in your wildest imagination? Now multiply that by, like, 934.
That’s just a fraction of what it feels like every time you open Twitter to be reminded of the news that two-time Academy Award winner, Tom Hanks, and his partner, Rita Wilson, have both been diagnosed with coronavirus.
The Toy Story star took to social media to share the news, writing “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too.
“To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” wrote Tom.
Fortunately, Tom’s son, Chet, managed to take the time to get topless before telling us that “they’re not trippin'”. Which I think is a good thing.
Tom later shared another snap of him and his wife, Rita, from Australia – where Tom was filming an upcoming Elvis Presley biopic. Sharing the news that both of them were in quarantine, Tom assured his fans that they were taking it day-by-day, before quoting A League of Their Own, saying “there is no crying in baseball”.
Naturally, the internet did not take the news of Tom’s diagnosis too well. I can’t cast judgement – I was one of them. I actually prayed it was an elaborate joke and that everyone I had known and loved had contracted coronavirus instead of Tom.
