Tra-La-Laa! The First Trailer For Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie Has Swooped In!

If there was one thing I spent all of my days doing when I was younger, it was reading my favourite book series, Captain Underpants. (Okay, that was the second thing I spent all of my time doing; I’m not telling you my first – my parents read this.)

DreamWorks have adapted Dav Pilkey’s comedy book into a full-length feature animated movie, with an all-star cast, including Kevin Hart, Thomas Middleditch and Ed Helms. And now it’s got a mother-flipping trailer.

I’ll give you a second to recreate my jaw slamming to the ground, using The World’s Cheesiest Animation Technology a.k.a Flip-O-Rama. (See, I told you I was a Captain Underpants fan. Kind of explains why I had to pay school kids in Haribo just to not lock me in the toilet.)

The premise is simple – George and Harold (voiced by Hart and Middlemitch, respectively) are a pair of pranksters, who get in trouble with their principal, Mr. Krupp. After their attempt at hypnosis, they transform him into their comic-book creation, Captain Underpants. But you knew that, didn’t you? Of course you’ve read the original books. Because if you hadn’t, I wouldn’t be talking to you right now…

Captain Underpants’ trailer is everything you’d expect it to be; it’s loud, it’s colourful and Kevin Hart basically shouts every single line he says, in an attempt to distance himself from what Kevin Hart usually does. What we’re yet to see is George and Harold rearranging signs, or that one little kid who’s mum won’t believe him whenever he sees Captain Underpants, but I’m sure they’ll be included. And if not, I’ll set Wedgie Woman on director David Soren.

Sigh. I’m a 23-year old man. I shouldn’t know who Wedgie Woman is, should I?

And the best part? My mum’s only just learned that Captain Fantastic isn’t part of the MCU; wait until she tries to work out where Captain Underpants fits into the franchise.
