Let’s be real: casting Rosalina in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is no small task. She’s not just another princess. She’s a floating, celestial goddess who protects the cosmos with a fleet of star-children. She’s regal. She’s mysterious. She’s a vibe. And choosing who gets to voice her in the sequel? That’s the kind of responsibility I do not take lightly.

From Zendaya to Sabrina Carpenter, who should voice Rosalina in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie? 🌌 #thesupermariogalaxymovie #mario #whattowatch #supermario #filmtok

First up, Sabrina Carpenter. She’s melodic, playful, and has that cheeky sparkle that could give Rosalina a refreshing twist. Plus, let’s be honest—Mario probably needs someone to keep him in check, and Sabrina’s Rosalina would absolutely deliver that energy. I’m convinced she’d turn the Luma lullabies into top 40 hits.

Then there’s Keke Palmer. The woman could promote toast and make it iconic. She’s a press tour queen, a comedy powerhouse, and while I’m unsure if she’s got that serene, space queen stillness that Rosalina needs, pair her with Jack Black for the junket and I’ll personally fund the marketing.

Hunter Schafer feels like the most aesthetically on point choice… Ethereal, otherworldly, and long overdue for a video game adaptation (seriously, she should’ve been in Zelda). I wouldn’t be mad at her turning Rosalina into a distant cosmic enigma with haunting beauty and galactic grace.

But when it comes to the perfect match? Lily James and Zendaya are battling it out at the top. Lily brings sincerity, sweetness, and a quiet confidence to everything she does. Meanwhile, Zendaya would serve cool, subtle vocals and belt out a lullaby like it’s a Grammy performance. Also? It’s been way too long since her animated breakout in Smallfoot… It’s time for a sequel to Zendaya is Meechee.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Is Officially Blasting Off

After raking in over a billion dollars worldwide with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo and Illumination are levelling up with their highly anticipated sequel: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Set to release on April 3, 2026, this next chapter takes Mario from the Mushroom Kingdom to the stars, and I couldn’t be more hyped.

The teaser footage shows Chris Pratt’s Mario catching some Zs under a tree before a butterfly leads us through the Kingdom and into deep space. It’s a simple setup, but it perfectly bridges the earthbound nostalgia of the first film with the cosmic chaos of Super Mario Galaxy, the legendary 2007 video game that inspired it.

The returning cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. And while we’re still waiting for official announcements on new characters, Rosalina’s appearance feels all but confirmed.

According to Nintendo and Illumination, the sequel will be a “bright and fun story” that expands the Mario universe into new worlds and galaxies. That can only mean one thing: Lumas. Starship travel. And fingers crossed… The grand reveal of Rosalina, floaty dress, cosmic hair and all.

From Platforming to the Planetary: What’s the Plot?

Much like the game it’s based on, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is expected to revolve around Bowser kidnapping Peach again, but this time with a flying saucer and a full-on galactic power trip. Mario will chase them across different galaxies with the help of new characters, including the star-shaped sidekick Luma, who quickly became a fan-favourite in the games.

This interstellar setting opens the door for a whole new aesthetic and tone. Expect surreal planets, gravity-defying physics, and glowing constellations replacing the usual grassy plains and lava pits. It’s Mario like we’ve never seen him before. Think Guardians of the Galaxy but with mushrooms and platform shoes.

The first Super Mario Bros. Movie was a record-smashing hit, earning the top animated opening of all time and becoming the 18th highest-grossing film worldwide. So, it’s no surprise that expectations are sky-high (literally) for this one. And with the expansion into Galaxy territory, the film is set to be more ambitious, weird, and potentially emotional than ever before.

Illumination knows how to keep things bright, funny, and family-friendly, but Galaxy gives them a chance to flex some visual storytelling muscles. And if they’re smart, they’ll use Rosalina as the heart of that celestial story.

But Wait… Danny DeVito as Wario?

Speaking of iconic castings that need to happen, let’s not forget Danny DeVito, who, in my own interview, expressed genuine interest in playing Wario. Yes, you heard that right. The Penguin himself wants to become Mario’s garlic-breathed, money-hungry rival.

When I brought it up to him, he grinned and said he was “ready” for it. And look, the internet has been begging for this since the first film came out. DeVito’s voice, chaotic energy, and complete Wario vibes are exactly what the sequel… Or maybe even the Wario & Waluigi spin-off—needs?!
