Back by popular demand, the incredible Ailish Morrison has officially returned to The Movie Dweeb Podcast, and what better way to celebrate than by obsessing over The Fantastic Four: First Steps? But before we got to discussing Marvel’s latest take on Marvel’s First Family, we took a moment to appreciate the real First Lady of the Fantastic Four: Jessica Alba.
Yes, it took all of two minutes before we were fawning over the Fantastic Four OG herself, and honestly, who can blame us? “We’re both in agreement, we are going to leave our partners for Jessica Alba’s Sue Storm,” I boldly declared. (I hope my wife doesn’t read this.)
Ailish, equally smitten, doubled down with, “Oh, she took my mind a while ago, yeah. She’s probably one of the most attractive women I’ve ever laid eyes upon.” And if that’s not the most relatable opinion ever, I don’t know what is.

Let’s be real: Jessica Alba’s portrayal of Sue Storm in the 2005 Fantastic Four (and its 2007 sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer) was nothing short of iconic. Sure, the movies had their fair share of early-2000s superhero cheesiness, but Alba owned the role, bringing charm, confidence, and the best superhero hair of all time.
While the franchise may not have been the dark and gritty Marvel movies we see today, it had heart, humor, and some of the most quotable moments in superhero history. Also, let’s not forget Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm pre-Captain America. The man was already perfect at playing a superhero with an attitude.
Once we finished our Jessica Alba appreciation hour, Ailish and I did what we do best: overanalyze movie trailers. The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer gave us a first look at Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing.
The trailer looks incredible, but there’s one thing that has us a little worried: the multiverse.

“People are breaking down the trailer, and they’ve spotted that Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic is working on a bridge to the multiverse,” I pointed out. “If this means we’re bringing in Miles Teller and John Krasinski, I’m just done with seeing that.”
Let’s be honest: the multiverse is fun, but Marvel has been leaning on it like a crutch lately. Could it mean the Fantastic Four are finally joining the Avengers? Possibly! My personal theory? Galactus is about to chomp down on their world like a cosmic-sized Pac-Man, and the only way for them to escape is through the multiverse. It could be the big event Marvel needs to shake things up.
Directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision), The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to officially introduce Marvel’s First Family into the MCU. With a powerhouse cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, it’s safe to say expectations are sky-high.
Oh, and speaking of major cast members, I actually sat down with Ralph Ineson recently to talk about his role as Galactus. (That voice alone is enough to give Thanos nightmares.) While he didn’t give away any spoilers, let’s just say his take on the Devourer of Worlds is going to be big.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to release on July 25, 2025, and you know I’ll be first in line with our popcorn.
If you want to hear Ailish and me scream about The Fantastic Four (and yes, probably more Jessica Alba appreciation), you can download The Movie Dweeb Podcast on YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Go on, treat your ears!
