Margot Robbie’s take on Harley Quinn is nothing short of iconic. From her baseball bat-wielding antics in Suicide Squad to leading an all-female crime spree in Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), she’s cemented herself as one of DC’s most beloved antiheroes. But when I asked her if she could ever see her version of Harley teaming up with Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar-winning Joker, she had the best response.

“I think they exist in two very different worlds,” she said, explaining the tonal contrast between Todd Phillips’ gritty, grounded Joker and the neon-drenched chaos of Birds of Prey. “I don’t know how you’d bridge that gap.”

I pointed out that they probably wouldn’t get along anyway. “She’s too wild, and he’s too busy getting in fridges.” Margot chuckled, fully agreeing. “God, she’d drive him insane. She’d be on the other side of the fridge like, ‘Puddin’, come out, Mr. J! What you doing?’”

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn: The Reign of Chaos

Since first donning the red-and-blue pigtails in Suicide Squad (2016), Margot Robbie has defined Harley Quinn for a new generation. She took the character from Joker’s lovesick sidekick to a fully independent, hammer-swinging force of nature in Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad (2021). Her version of Harley is unpredictable, hilarious, and—despite her complete disregard for rules—shockingly lovable.

While Robbie’s future as Harley remains uncertain, her portrayal has left a lasting impact, influencing everything from comics to animated adaptations. And let’s be honest—if anyone could talk a brooding, fridge-hiding Joker into a musical number, it’d be her.

Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker: The Award-Winning Madness

Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of Arthur Fleck in Joker (2019) was a completely different beast. His descent into madness, punctuated by unsettling dance sequences and an eerie laugh, earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. The film was a psychological deep dive into Gotham’s underbelly, making it hard to imagine how a bat-wielding, glitter-loving Harley Quinn could slot into that world.

While a crossover seems unlikely, both Margot and Joaquin have delivered performances that redefined their characters. But one thing’s for sure—if Harley ever did pop up in Joker’s universe, Arthur Fleck would never get a moment of peace (or fridge time) again.
