I’m pretty lucky. Not in the sense that I’ve won the lottery several times over, but in the sense that just minutes before my chat with Joe Keery, the news broke that his close friend, Joseph Quinn had been cast as Johnny Storm in the MCU’s upcoming The Fantastic Four.

After speaking about his latest film, Marmalade, I informed Joe that his Stranger Things co-star, Joseph, had officially been announced as Marvel’s Human Torch, alongside Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

“That’s an official thing now?” said Joe, after years of speculation and fan-casting.

“I think, for all Joes, that this is a good thing,” he continued. While it may be good for both himself and Joseph Quinn, I don’t know how it necessarily affects, say, Joe Biden, but if Joe Keery says it’s true, it must be.

“This is fantastic. It’s official. That’s great. I gotta text him right now. I’m going to text him.”

I then got a bit too cocksure, and wanted to press Joe for the juicy details, asking him if he knew about the casting for a long time, but kept it a secret, because… Y’know, Marvel.

“I didn’t know if it was official. Sometimes, you don’t want to pry. I didn’t want to jinx it for him, as a fellow Joe.”

“That’s cool. That’s so cool,” he repeated. “I wonder where they shoot that.”

It was announced on 14 February – Valentine’s Day – that Joseph Quinn would be portraying the Human Torch in The Fantastic Four, which is set for release on 25 July, 2025, having swapped release dates with Thunderbolts (now set for 2 May, 2025).

Previously, I had asked both Jon Hamm and Glenn Howerton about appearing in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four. Some may say that’s good journalism, in an attempt to get the hot scoop… But let’s face it, I was just wildly wrong.

Jon said that he would be pleased to portray Mr Fantastic, prior to Pedro Pascal’s announcement, saying that he had similar hair to the character, while Glenn Howerton said, while he’d like to play Reed Richards, it would be unlikely and that no-one has had that conversation with him, despite director, Matt Shakman, having worked with him previously on It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
