I’ve done some pretty ridiculous things in the name of movies; worn a Toothless onesie in public, nearly got heatstroke interviewing actors at Comic-Con, and once attempted stand-up comedy with a questionable joke about Superman (scroll deep into my Instagram and the evidence is there). But nothing — nothing — compares to what I just did to celebrate the new Superman movie.
The lovely folks at Warner Bros. invited me to take part in the Superman: Take Flight Experience, a zip wire that starts 235 metres above London, launching from the top of One Canada Square in Canary Wharf. And for some reason, I said yes. I suited up (read: squeezed into a very snug jumpsuit), donned the cape, and took the ultimate leap of faith off a skyscraper… All in the spirit of Krypton’s finest.
I zipped 295 metres through the air, at speeds of up to 25 km/h, landing on the rooftop of another building like I was in a Zack Snyder slow-mo sequence (minus the muscles, mood lighting, or dignity). And even though I screamed most of the way down, I’ll admit it: it was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life.
And now that I’ve technically played Superman for a whole 40 seconds, I think it’s only fair I be considered for Superman 2. James Gunn, if you’re reading this, I’m happy to audition for Sweaty London Civilian #3. I’ve got range.
Everything We Know About Superman
The reason I threw myself off a skyscraper? That would be Superman, James Gunn’s highly anticipated reboot of the DC Universe. Flying into UK cinemas on 11 July 2025, this film promises to be a bold new take on the Man of Steel; fresh, heartfelt, and, knowing Gunn, just the right amount of weird.
Starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, this version of Superman will explore a younger Kal-El as he navigates balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. And if the set photos and early rumours are anything to go by, we’re getting a Superman who actually smiles, wears the iconic trunks, and maybe even talks to people without brooding first.
The film will also feature a stacked cast of DC characters, including Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Gunn’s not just rebooting Superman. He’s laying the foundation for the entire new DC Universe.
Which means if you’re a longtime DC fan (or just someone who got emotionally destroyed by The Flash multiverse cameo chaos), this film could be the reset button we’ve been waiting for.
Why James Gunn Might Just Be the Hero the DCU Needs
If you’re not familiar with James Gunn by now… where have you been? The man started his career writing horror-comedy (Slither), but became a household name thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel Studios. He took a talking raccoon, a walking tree, and a mixtape, and somehow made us cry over all three.
Then came his detour into DC territory with The Suicide Squad (2021), a chaotic, gory, deeply heartfelt masterpiece that made us root for characters like Polka-Dot Man and a starfish kaiju. That was followed by Peacemaker, one of the weirdest and most wonderful superhero series in recent memory, and proof that Gunn can juggle action, absurdity, and actual character depth like no one else.
Now, as co-head of DC Studios, Gunn’s in charge of the next phase of the DC Universe, starting with Superman. And honestly? I trust him. He knows how to make blockbusters with soul, heroes with flaws, and villains who cry to rock ballads. If anyone can bring Superman back to his hopeful, world-saving glory (while still sneaking in a few twisted jokes), it’s this guy.
So yes, I threw myself off a building dressed as Superman. But I did it for the future of cinema… and for a cheeky shot at the sequel.
James, the cape’s already in my wardrobe.
