I like Marvel movies. There; I said it. I know, I know. I bet it’s because of these controversial hot-takes that you keep returning to The Movie Dweeb.

I was shocked to discover that I wasn’t the only one who appreciated these independent movies, with The Avengers, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: End Game being the highest grossing films of their respective years.

Other people like Marvel movies? Who knew?!

In fact, so many people like them, I’m starting to question if there’s anyone who doesn’t like them. Anyone at all…

Enter Mickey Rourke.

Yes, that Mickey Rourke. The Mickey Rourke who starred in Marvel’s Iron Man 2.

The Academy Award nominee, who appeared as Tony Stark’s antagonist, Ivan Vanko, in the 2010 sequel, took to Instagram to share a lengthy rant about how Marvel films were ‘shit’ in comparison to… Law & Order: SVU, of all things.

I never thought I’d say this, but Mickey Rourke and my mum have a lot in common, at this point.

Mickey Rourke wrote to his 199k Instagram followers explaining how he’d just discovered SVU during the pandemic, and has since watched a thousand episodes; praising the show’s production, direction and continued by saying he was “really impressed with this ensembles of highly talented actors.”

After celebrating the likes of Mariska Hargitay, Chris Meloni and Ice-T’s performances, Rourke went full Ivan Vanko and wanted to take down the entire MCU, saying “Respect to all of you, the work that you all do is real acting, not like that crap that all on Marvel shit.”

Interestingly, Ray Winstone, who plays Dreykov in Marvel’s upcoming Black Widow commented on the post, saying “Great show Micky, well said”, with a hands clapping emoji, but he was presumably agreeing with the praise for Law & Order, as opposed to the slander of Marvel.

Previously, Mickey Rourke criticised Iron Man 2 on Late Night with Seth Meyers, stating that producers had cut most of his scenes, and has since regularly insisted that he’s not a fan of the MCU.

Fingers crossed Mickey Rourke’s comments won’t hurt the Marvel Cinematic Universe too much, as I – nope. I couldn’t get through that sentence without cracking up. I think they’ll be okay, don’t you?
