I was devastated when Harry Styles pulled out of Disney’s upcoming adaptation of The Little Mermaid for a series of reasons.

Firstly, I think it’s amazing to see how far he’s come, having auditioned for a reality show during his shifts at a bakery, to starring in Academy Award-winning films such as Dunkirk. Following stints in the likes of Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman, it’s so exciting to see how Harry’s career in Hollywood will progress; especially with rumoured appearances both opposite Brad Pitt, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I was also upset because if he did star in The Little Mermaid, chances are I’d get to interview him for it, and I’d immediately become cool through association. That’s just how it works.

Which is why, during my chat with Raya and the Last Dragon’s Awkwafina, I started to well up as we discussed her upcoming portrayal as Scuttle, the seagull, in the live-action remake. Thankfully, Awkwafina was there to lend me a shoulder to cry on, as she reassured me that Jonah Hauer-King will also make a great Prince Eric.

“I think I came on a little bit later [than when Harry Styles was said to be cast as Prince Eric],”

I am a big fan of Harry Styles,” she continued, before praising Jonah, who was finally cast in the role, saying “He is really great, too.”

Fine. I suppose I’ll never get to sit down with Harry Styles. I’ll just have to settle with talking to one of my favourite actresses, Awkwafina, star of incredible films such as The Farewell and Crazy Rich Asians, and someone who sings some of my favourite songs including ‘Ghost’ and ‘Marijuana’. I suppose Awkwafina will just have to suffice.

(Seriously though, Awkwafina, if you’re reading this, know that I love you endlessly.)
