Everyone has one thing they hate about their workplace. Maybe it’s a lengthy commute. It could be a horrible boss.

Or, if like me, you hate your work because you actually have to work for your pay.

I appreciate I probably sound like a diva after that statement, but fortunately for me, there’s people like Christopher Nolan in this world.

During Variety’s Actors on Actors segment, Anne Hathaway joined Hugh Jackman – who have both starred in Nolan’s films, The Dark Knight Rises and The Prestige, respectively.

According to Anne, Nolan notoriously doesn’t allow chairs on the set of his films. You read that right. Just pray for Anne who may never getting a seated role ever again.

“He doesn’t allow chairs, and his reasoning is, if you have chairs, people will sit, and if they’re sitting, they’re not working,” said the The Hustle star.

“I mean, he has these incredible movies in terms of scope and ambition and technical prowess and emotion. It always arrives at the end under schedule and under budget. I think he’s onto something with the chair thing.”

You think your job sucks? Not only does Robert Pattinson not have a fucking clue what’s going on in Tenet; the film he actually stars in, but he can’t even pull up a pew to question it.

Imagine how much it must such for Michael Caine – the poor 87-year-old has starred in eight of Nolan’s films, and hasn’t been able to rest his knees once.

But before you vow to stand up in the cinema for the entire duration of Tenet – both in protest with Anne Hathaway, and to avoid possibly contracting COVID-19 from the previous cinemagoer – know that IndieWire reached out to Nolan’s reps for a statement.

A spokesperson for the acclaimed director said, “For the record, the only things banned from [Christopher Nolan’s] sets are cell phones (not always successfully) and smoking (very successfully).”

According to Kelly Bush Novak, the chairs Anne was referring to were the directors chairs clustered around the video monitor. Apparently, Christopher doesn’t use his chair, but happily lets other cast and crew to sit when they want.

I worry for Anne – it looks as if sit just got serious…

One response to “Does Christopher Nolan Ban Chairs On Set?”

  1. […] single-handedly made Batman a fucking unbelievably cool icon again; hell, the dude even apparently banned chairs from his set. He is a living […]
